69 Minamiawaji City Awaji Puppet Theatre Museum

This museum is a free-entry facility that preserves and exhibits materials related to Awaji Puppet Theater. Awaji Puppet Theater reached its peak in the mid-Edo period, when there were more than 40 puppet theaters on Awaji Island, but the number gradually decreased, and now only one theater, the Awaji Puppet Theater, remains active. This museum was opened in the birthplace of Awaji puppets (Sanjo Village in the Edo period) after acquiring a set of puppets and props from the prestigious Ichimura Rokunojo Theater, which ceased operations in the mid-1960s. -

Onokorojima Shrine is said to be the legendary land of Onokorojima, the first island to be born in Japan. It is also said to be the sacred place where the Japanese gods were born, and that the first island to be created when Izanagi and Izanami, under orders from the heavenly gods, stirred the ocean with a spear was Onokorojima. It is said that they descended on this island, and that it is the sacred place where the Japanese gods, including Amaterasu Omikami, were born. It is said that the shrine has divine virtues for matchmaking, marital harmony, and safe childbirth, and many young men and women visit the shrine. -

The scenic Keino Matsubara has been selected as one of the "100 Best Beaches in Japan" and as one of the "100 Best Swimming Beaches" selected by the Ministry of the Environment in 2006, and the 2.5 km long white sand beach with green pines is crowded with many beachgoers. The promenade leading to the beach is called the Proposal Highway, and is lined with Awaji's famous roof tiles engraved with the message "Kawaranu Ai" (Love that never fades). The sunset over the Harima Nada Sea is a spectacular sight, and the area is also famous as a spot to watch beautiful sunsets. -
75 Guoqing Temple

It is the only Obaku temple on the island, and is a Zen temple that was restored based on the teachings of "Kuga Zen" advocated by the monk Gyokusei Naohara, a leading figure in Nanga painting. The temple grounds are also home to the peonies that are the symbol of Kokusei Zen Temple, which bloom in full glory and show off their refreshing colors in the spring. The temple is beloved by locals, literati, and sophisticated people alike, and visitors from all over the country come to enjoy it. This is a temple where you can enjoy the immersion of Zen with the colorful peonies. -

It opened in 1991 as a museum that mainly collects the works of Gyokusei Naohara, a leading figure in modern Nanga painting. On the first floor, masterpieces such as his representative work "Zen Cow Farming: Ushikahigusa" are on display. In addition, on the second floor, historical materials of the area, including the Matsuho Bronze Bell discovered in the city, are on display. 79 Nadakuroiwa Narcissus Village

Nadakuroiwa Suisenkyo, famous as a seasonal winter feature on Awaji Island, reopened in December 2023. It has been reborn as a new landmark for the area and a hub for interaction with local people. The rooftop has an observation deck from which visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the ocean, including Numashima, known for its creation myth. The entrance on the first floor is equipped with toilets and washrooms, and can be used as a rest area for visitors to Suisenkyo as well as cyclists. The second floor is an eat-in space that serves food and drinks, and also has a sales space for local products. -
80 Hometown Revitalization Center "Nanairokan"

It is located at the southern end of National Route 28, which runs north and south across Awaji Island. It is also home to the Awaji Ningyo Joruri Theatre, a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, and the whirlpool cruise stop, where you can see the whirlpools of the Naruto Strait up close. It also has a shop selling agricultural and marine products and processed goods, restaurants, a tourist information center, and a popular footbath facility, and is visited by many tourists throughout the year. -
81 Nushima Terminal Center

Numashima Terminal Center is the departure and arrival point for boats connecting Awaji Island and Numashima. Numashima Kisen operates two boats, "Shimakaze" and "Shimamachidori" (capacity 84 and 82 passengers respectively). The trip between Nada Habu and Numashima takes about 10 minutes, with 10 regular boats per day. There is a paid parking lot at Habu Port (500 yen per day, 83 cars). 82 Uzushio Roadside Station (now Uzumachi Terrace)

Uzushio Roadside Station, the roadside station closest to the whirlpools at the southern end of Awaji Island, has moved to a nearby hill for renovations. The view is so spectacular that even locals praise it, with the deep blue sea and wide sky, and in front of you you can enjoy the Onaruto Bridge and the mountain ranges of Shikoku. The hamburger that won the local Burger Grand Prix is always crowded with people lining up, and the shop sells onions from contracted farmers as well as souvenirs that can only be found here. Minakoikuya, one of the largest direct sales stores in the prefecture, stocks a wide variety of Awaji Island's bountiful ingredients, which have been famous since ancient times as "Mikketsukuni (Land of Food)." They also sell vegetables and fruits grown by local farmers. They also sell branded Awaji beef and fish caught in the waters off Awaji Island. Awaji Island is rich in ingredients, and there are a wide variety of processed products and souvenirs! There are about 200 types of processed products that use onions alone!! Come on everyone! -

86 Yuzuruha Shrine

Yuzuruha Shrine is a shrine located near the summit of Mt. Yuzuruha, the highest peak on Awaji Island. It is said that the name of the mountain comes from the fact that over 2,000 years ago, the two gods Izanagi and Izanami descended to the top of the mountain on the wings of a crane, and this is where the shrine began. It has been praised as a sacred place for Shugendo and the original shrine of the Kumano Sanzan. The Akagashi forest of the shrine grove is a natural monument designated by Hyogo Prefecture, and you can enjoy the rich nature of the four seasons while listening to the chirps of the birds, or enjoy hiking the Yuzuruha Old Trail. -
87 Yuzuruha Dam and Rest Area

Yuzuruha Dam, located at the foot of Mt. Yuzuruha, the highest peak on Awaji Island, is known as a famous cherry blossom spot, with about 800 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees blooming in full glory every year from early to mid-April. The Somei-Yoshino cherry trees are planted along the road for about 2 km around the dam lake, and the scene of the green of the mountains and the pink of the flowers reflected brilliantly on the lake surface is an inspiring sight for walkers and cherry blossom viewers. *Please cooperate by following the one-way traffic (clockwise) on the outer road of Yuzuruha Dam to avoid congestion. -

Located on Mt. Omi (145m above sea level) overlooking Fukura Bay, the observation deck offers a magnificent panorama of the Naruto Strait. Along the path leading to the memorial tower commemorating the war dead, Kawasuzakura, Somei-yoshino, and Hachisukazakura cherry trees bloom in succession from March to early April every year, adding color to the solemn atmosphere.
